If you are looking for one book that will teach you the basics of fly-fishing, along with some great illustrations, Essential Fly Fishing by Tom Meade is what you are looking for. On the surface, fly-fishing can seem to be complicated, but Meade provides a concise introduction to the sport, definitely enough information for beginners to feel comfortable. Topics include: choosing flies, casting a fly line, angling etiquette and safety. There are also some chapters on where to locate fish in streams, rivers and creeks. Some of my personal favorite parts are the illustrations - casting a fly line and tactics to make your flies look as if they were "real" to the trout.
